Spicy Crispy Fried Okra
Okra is one of those veggies you either hate or love. But we guarantee, you will love this recipe and enjoy a veggie not so often available. NOTE: This is a fried recipe. Please note that the fats in your diet are so important. Bad fast come in every processed foods in the grocery store from mayonnaise to cookies. There are four (4) basic healthy fats PERIOD! Good Olive Oil Avocado Oil Grass Fed Butter Coconut Oil It is my experience that frying (especially in a deep fryer ) works best with avocado oil.

  1. In a pie plate or paper lunch bag, mix together flour, and spices.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and buttermilk.
  3. Working in several batches, place okra in egg mixture and coat well. Transfer to pie plate or paper bag and coat with flour mixture
  4. Using a deep fryer - set the temperature to 375 If not using a deep fryer, pour about 1 inch avocado oil in a large cast iron skillet . Heat oil until about 375 degrees. (you can throw one in and if it sizzles your ready)
  5. Place a single layer of okra in the oil. Cook until golden brown on bottom and use a spoon to flip over. Try to flip over a few at a time or it will take some time to work your way through all of them.
  6. Once golden brown on both sides, either remove from the fry basket or use a slotted spoon to remove okra to a plate lined with paper towels. Sprinkle okra with some salt as soon as you remove it from the oil. Serve warm.
